McKinney-Vento
The Oregon School District Homeless Liaison works with school staff and local agencies to identify students who may qualify for homeless status (according to the McKinney-Vento Act) and, once identified, work to remove barriers these students may have in accessing their education.
Who Qualifies:
Anyone lacking a fixed, regular and adequate nighttime residents including:
Doubled up, sharing housing due to loss of housing or economic hardship
In a motel, trailer park or campground
In an emergency shelter or transitional housing
Living in cars, parks, public spaces
Not in the custody of a parent or guardian
Migratory student
Rights:
Go to school, no matter where they live or how long they have lived there
Continue in the school that they last attended before becoming homeless
Receive transportation to the school they last attended
Enroll in school without giving a permanent address
Enroll & attend classes while the school arrange for the transfer of immunization records or any other documents required for enrollment

Service to homeless students includes:
Enrollment assistance
Transportation to/from school, if feasible
Receive free or reduced meals
Community resource referrals
